When decorating your home for the winter it’s important to follow safety precautions. Our installation manager Gary has put together a list of important items to remember while you are out decorating.

Try to avoid connecting multiple strings of lights together as much as possible. Instead integrate a multi plug-in power strip with a fuse overload protector, particularly for indoors.

For outdoor lights use integrated timers with an outdoor rated plug-in. The timer will allow you to turn the lights on and off without you needing to remember to do so.

Also, make sure that you cover the male/female connectors of outdoor lights with electrical tape to make them waterproof.

Never use any electrical cords that are spliced, frayed or that are needing repairs. Instead, replace with newer cords to ensure safety.

Finally, use strings of lights that have a fuse in the plug. If there happens to be a short in the wire, the fuse will blow and may prevent the short from blowing the breaker.
