April 18, 2012 (Washington, DC) – Unique Home Solutions has been nationally recognized by the ESOP Association as the winner of the 2012 Annual Award for Communications Excellence (AACE – AACE Past Winners).
The AACE Awards are sponsored each year by the Association to recognize ESOP (employee stock ownership plan) members across the nation for outstanding communications and educational programs. All 2012 entries will be displayed at The ESOP Association’s Annual Conference, May 10-11, 2012, in Washington, DC.
Unique Home Solutions is an employee-owned company located in Indianapolis, IN. Unique became an ESOP in 2007 and since has developed an ESOP Committee to assist with the task of communicating the ESOP benefits to employees, employee families and the community. Unique Home Solutions won an AACE in the video category. This award recognizes excellence in the use of video to promote the ESOP concept to employees or the outside world.
“Communicating the benefits of an ESOP is an on-going process and one that we are always looking to improve. We are honored that the ESOP Association acknowledged us with an AACE award; we will use this as motivation to improve and innovate our communication techniques for years to come,” said Bob Dillon, President.
AACE winners are chosen by a panel of five judges made up of both management and non-management employee-owners, each of whom has demonstrated active experience and interest in the field of ESOPs and employee ownership communications. Awards are based on: overall quality and quantity of employee owner education, contributions of employee owners, integration of the ESOP into company culture, frequency of ownership communications, involvement and/or response of employee owners, encouragement of ownership attitudes, clear explanations, creative ideas, graphic design, and technical quality.
It is hoped that the AACE program will be a motivating factor in encouraging more ESOP companies to share this valuable benefit with their employees. The core cause of The ESOP Association is the belief that employee ownership will improve American competitiveness, increase productivity through greater employee participation, and strengthen our free enterprise economy.

April 9, 2012 (Indianapolis) – Unique Home Solutions has been selected as the winner of three GAF Excellence Awards, recognizing the Acclaimed Roofing Division for superior training, installation and consumer protection for jobs performed in 2011.
The Excellence Awards are sponsored each year by GAF to recognize roofing contractors who have achieved Master Elite™ Contractor status and have consistently performed quality installations and customer care. GAF is North America’s largest manufacturer of commercial and residential roofing. Unique is one of over 20,000 dealers in the Central Region, and is honored to be recognized for their exceptional performance.
“We are delighted to have been honored in such a way by GAF. Earning these awards was no small task; the employees of Unique went above and beyond to provide this type of service and craftsmanship, which is something we ask of them on every job,” said Bob Dillon, President of Unique Home Solutions.
The Consumer Protection Excellence Award recognizes Unique for protecting homeowners with system selling and enhanced warranties. To achieve this award Unique installed and registered a minimum of 100 enhanced warranty jobs or a minimum of $10,000 in warranty dollars in 2011.
The Training Excellence Award recognizes Unique for their commitment to training and continuous improvement. To achieve this award all roofing installation crews attended educational programs sponsored by GAF to refine their skills.
Unique was also awarded the Installation Excellence Award. This award recognizes Unique for demonstrating high levels of quality on a consistent basis. All installations are inspected by GAF; therefore to achieve this award Unique held a clean record in relation to installation complaints and follow up with customers, and had a perfect score on warranty inspections in 2011.
In addition to offering supreme products and award-winning installation, Unique’s Roofing Installation Crews have achieved the exclusive status of Master Elite™ Roofing Contractors. This is a status that only 3% of the roofing contractors in America have achieved. To accomplish the Master Elite status, residential roofing contractors have undergone factory certification and have committed to specific principles and values in their selling practices, business process and installation methods.
GAF recognizes that roofing is a top complaint category to the Better Business Bureau and that there is limited training available for roofing contractors. The GAF Excellence Awards are used to reward the GAF roofing contractors who continuously strive to improve their work.

October 19, 2011 (INDIANAPOLIS) – Unique Home Solutions is ranked no. 24 on the Replacement 100, a list of the nation’s leading remodeling firms by Replacement Contractor Magazine.
To be acknowledged on the Replacement 100, a company’s growth in revenue, job size and product line are ranked against other top remodelers in the country. Unique Home Solutions moved up from no. 28 in 2010 to no. 24 in 2011. The President of the company contributes the growth and success to employee pride and customer service.
“To be ranked 24th in the country is an honor. The last couple years have not been easy on this industry, but it takes a strong sense of pride and leadership to keep growing. Unique Home Solutions, a central Indiana, employee-owned home remodeling company, was ranked 33 on the Qualified Remodeler’s Top 500 List. This list represents the nation’s top 500 remodelers ranked by revenue, years in business, association memberships, certified employees on staff, industry awards and community service.
Unique Home Solutions received special star recognition for the fields of Association Membership, Certification, Awards and Community Service. This is not the first time Unique Home Solutions has been nationally noticed and appreciated. Unique has ranked highly on the Qualified Remodeler’s Top 500 list for over five years, but being positioned as 33 in the country was the highest ranking UHS has seen yet. In 2010 UHS came in at 39 and in 2009 UHS was ranked at 50.
“I am honored to have achieved this award again, and am pleased to see how far we’ve grown. We are proud of our success and use opportunities such as this to motivate us to be a better company and better community member to Central Indiana,” said Bob Dillon, President.
In addition to the recent Qualified Remodeler’s Award, 2011 has proved to be a good year for UHS. UHS has been named one of Indianapolis’ Top Workplaces and ESOP Company of the Year by the Indiana ESOP Chapter in 2011. UHS also currently has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, which may be a reflection of company president, Bob Dillon’s attitude: “Our goal is to ensure complete customer satisfaction.”

When Robert Dillon bought Unique Home Solutions in 1993, he had only 11 employees. Under his leadership, the company has enjoyed tremendous growth, even during a faltering economy.
“The remodeling business is fairly consistent,” he said. “If you have the right kind of products and the right kind of payment plans, you can withstand most economic pressures.”
Dillon’s leadership philosophy is simple: “I try to treat everyone fair. I try to give employees an ethical work environment and a job and position they can be proud of. And I try to compensate them well. Ethics and fairness are the two cornerstones that make everything worthwhile.”
That philosophy contributed to the company landing at No. 5 among midsize businesses in The Indianapolis Star’s Top Workplaces survey.
Education is taken very seriously. Procedures are explained in terms of why they benefit the company and the employees, by extension. Every department conducts training sessions weekly — some more frequently. The company also provides training for those on a leadership track and, on a case-by-case basis, may pay for external training.
Employees are appreciative of the “excellent potential for advancement” and opportunities to “make a great living” and “be successful.” As one employee says, “from day one, the message is sent to us that the sky is the limit.”
Each month, Unique Homes has a Bonus Breakfast where employees bond over a meal and receive the latest company information. Employees who met their goals are honored with a plaque and bonus check. Employees are also recognized at the annual Christmas party, where each department honors its employee of the year. There’s also an annual fishing trip and numerous tokens of appreciation throughout the year, such as free pizza when the weather is bad.
All installation crews are employees and eligible for company benefits — not an industry standard.
Perks include the Employee Stock Ownership Plan, an on-site gym, flexible work schedule for administration staff, 401(k) and profit sharing.
Dillon wants the culture he cultivated to continue long after he retires. He recently opted to gradually transfer ownership of the company to the employees. Currently, the company is one-third employee-owned.
