Handy Homeowner Segment on Fox 59

Unique Home Solutions has the privilege of sharing some expertise on the Fox 59 segment of Handy Homeowner. This program airs each Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., as well as Saturday at 10 a.m on Fox 59. This weekly segment covers everything on the home; from installing ceiling fans, air conditioning maintenance, to installing screen doors and weather stripping. Our goal is to leave you with valuable advice that you can put to use around your own home, saving you the cost of hiring an outside party to do the work for you. Here are a few quick tips on air conditioning maintenance.

Air Conditioning Maintenance:

Make sure air conditioner fan is clear of weeds or other debris that could potentially slow it down. It is advised to clear that debris away and check for it often.

The intake filter can easily get dusty and dirty considering the unit is outside of the home. It is advised to spray the filters down with a hose regularly to clean them off and assist them in working more efficiently.

If one is initially installing an air conditioning unit, do not install it too close to the home. Nor let plants and weeds grow up around the air conditioning unit. If this is the case, listen for a whining noise.  This means you need to have your air conditioner serviced by a professional.

Check also for condensation on the unit. If you see condensation, the condenser may have gone out. This is another time when a homeowner should seek professional help.

The photos above were taken on August 15, 2012, during the recent filming of our next several segments. Ron Phillips, lead Handyman at Unique, shows the Fox59 crew how to weather strip a door, install a new door seal, clean windows properly and install shutters. Bryan Lynch, Roofing Installation Manager, shows the crew how to fix a vent pipe and a temporary solution for broken shingles.
